LEAN MANUFACTURING SYSTEM - an integral part of our strategy to reduce cost, improve quality, and increase our associates learning opportunities. We are committed to continuing to improve our management and manufacturing system for everyone’s mutual benefit.

The primary goal of our LEAN MANUFACTURING SYSTEM is the reduction and elimination of MUDA or WASTE in our production processes and support systems. Some examples of Muda are: Overproduction, Unnecessary Inventory, Inappropriate Processing, and Defects. With our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and Kaizen, B&B/Hemphill Spring Company has developed specific systems and methods for controlling these types of Muda. Overproduction simply means producing more than what is actually needed by an upstream process or customer. Unnecessary Inventory is generally the result of poor information flow and batch processing. B&B/Hemphill has developed and implemented an inventory visual system for controlling overproduction and unnecessary inventory. part identification, part flow, required minimum-maximum stocking levels and defined locations; a very effective, standardized production and inventory control system has evolved.

Inappropriate Processing refers to the inclusion of non-value added operations into the process stream. B&B/Hemphill Spring is committed to the elimination of non-value added work by systematically and consistently identifying it, determining its root cause and implementing countermeasures thorough Kaizen problem solving to ensure its removal.

Defects refer to defective product and information. B&B/Hemphill Spring is commitment to achieving Zero-Defects, utilizes standardized work, on-going training, one-piece process flow, gauging and Pokayoke (mistake-proofing devices) to ensure robust, standardized processes where abnormalities are easily detected. Lean is flow down directly to the team by the owners of B&B/Hemphill Spring who have been trained by Parker Air & Fuel & Pratt & Whitney. Our management team has also completed a Lean Manufacturing certificate program at Cal State Long Beach University of California.

Our team consists of our Production Manager, Production control, QC Manager, General Manager & The Owners. We’d love to share some of our success stories and some not so successful stories with you and compare notes whenever you have an opportunity.
